FIRST Robotics Competition

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build game-playing robots that weigh up to 120 pounds. Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, flying discs into goals, inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams. The game, along with the required set of tasks, changes annually. While teams are given a standard set of parts, they are also allowed a budget and are encouraged to buy or make specialized parts.

Students in 9th through 12th grade are available to register for the FRC program. Enrollment for the FRC program is generally open from June to December of each year. To signup to participate in this program, please fill out and submit a member application.

Dues for the year are $600 per student that help cover the operating cost of the program. Payments can be processed through our website or via check (Payment Policy). Students have the option of paying in Half or Full increments. Payment is due by the below dates (or within 7 days of initial registration). If a student registers between dates, the latest amount that has not passed is due.

  • September 9th – Minimum $300 Due
  • November 1st – Full Payment Due

Travel costs to competitions are not included in the above registration cost. Travel costs will be solidified once the season competitions have been announced. Estimated travel costs are: Local Competition (2x) – $150/each, District Championships – $275, World Championships – $1200 (including flights to Houston TX).

2024-2025 Enrollment Process

Enrollment in the 2024-2025 FRC season is operating a little differently then in the past. Compared to previous years where applications were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, the 2024-2025 FRC season will accept members on an individual application basis. Students can submit applications between June 29th and August 16th, 2024.

During the week of August 19th, members of our Application Review Committee will meet to review all submitted applications and determine which students will be invited to participate in the coming FRC Season. The Application Review Committee will use both the information provided in the application along with first-hand experience with the individual from their previous year with growingSTEMS. All students will be notified via email of their enrollment status by August 26th.

All new FRC students will attend their first meeting on Monday September 9th, 2024 from 6 to 8PM.

growingSTEMS currently hosts 1 FRC Team as part of our Community Robotics Program.
