The RoboBees hosted an FLL, or FIRST Lego League, qualifier for Southern Maryland at Hollywood Elementary School on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Ten Southern Maryland teams, from both private schools and combined groups, attended the qualifier, where they participated in matches and completed three types of judging. Teams were judged on Core Values, which included how they worked together as a team and they talked about their team. Robot Design judging included the teams discussing what challenges they chose to complete, how they chose to complete them, and how they overcame challenges they came across. Project Judging required the teams to identify a problem with human and animal interactions, develop an original solution to the problem, obtain feedback from a professional in the field, and present how their solution would work.
Team 3422, Best Robotic Animal Helpers, or B.R.A.H., from Hollywood, MD won the Core Values Award, Team 18685, Father Andrew White Cone Heads, from Leonardtown, MD won the Project Award, Team 8419, King’s Christian Academy Eagles 1, from Callaway, MD won the Design Award, and Team 27976, the ProGraHam Crackers, from Hollywood, MD won the Judges Award.
