This past Friday (June 22nd) was the first of the 2012 River Concert Series hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland. For the second consecutive year, growingSTEMS™ hosted its activity booth, with assistance from The RoboBees. The hands-on chemistry experiments captured the interest of many children and their families.
Three activities during this first event. Those activities were elephant toothpaste, dry ice gas bubbles, and gak. By far the dry ice gas bubbles were the biggest hit with the kids, watching a bubble fill with CO2 released from the dry ice entertained them until it went “pop!”. As night fell, the growingSTEMS mentors demonstrated other uses for the chemicals inside of glow sticks.
